WELCOME TO IRKA´S TRADITIONAL
LAPLAND JEWELLERY WEBSITE
The traditional Lapland Jewellery, made of Tin in combination with the hide and the antlers of Reindeer, are crafted by Irma Laitila using the same old technique used by Swedish craftsmen a long time ago.
The ancient method of spinning together fine metal threads of Tin, used in the embroidery of various objects of leather as decorations, is a very old tradition.
Similar types of metal threads have been traced all the way back to the 11th century. From the 17th century and onwards it is the Laplanders who have been carrying on this tradition.
In addition to this kind of traditional Lapland jewellery Irma Laitila also makes more contemporary pieces by using glass- and silverbeads.
